2015-Emmy-nominations

Nominations for the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Thursday by Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black) and Cat Deeley (So You Think You Can Dance), with HBO leading the pack with a total of 126 nods. ABC (with 42 contenders), CBS (41), FX (38) and Netflix (34) rounded out the Top 5.

HBO’s Game of Thrones reigned with a total of 24 nominations, followed by FX’s American Horror Story: Freak Show (19), HBO’s Olive Kitteridge (13) and HBO’s Bessie (12), Tying for fifth place were Netflix’s House of Cards, the final season of AMC’s Mad Men and Amazon’s Transparent, each with 11 nods.

This turned out to be the year Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany finally received her (VERY deserved) first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, as well as the year Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory finally ended their domination of the comedy categories. It was also a good year for actors of colour, with Viola DavisTaraji P. HensonAnthony Anderson, and Andre Braugher (just to name a few) getting recognition.

Outgoing critical darling Parks and Recreation got some love, though arguably not as much as it deserved. On the other hand, newcomers that made strong impressions include Transparent, Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtThe Last Man on Earth and Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul.

Andy Samberg is hosting the ceremony on September 20, which will be broadcast live on FOX from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
