Paramount has just released an official teaser for Zoolander 2 and it’s asking some very heavy questions about life, the universe and existence. More specifically: if God exists, then why did he make ugly people?
The Zoolander 2 (or is it 2oolander? Zoolander II?) teaser opens with a voiceover from the legendary Stephen Hawking, who guides us through the beauty and chaos of the creation of the universe and man, pondering the complex network of our minds.
Cut to: Ben Stiller’s Derek Zoolander, still as ridiculously good looking as ever, and still just as dim. Stiller doesn’t look like he’s aged much at all since the first film hit theaters in 2001.
“It’s ten years later and most of it is set in Europe,” Stiller previously said of the script. “It’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later – though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them.”
Stiller directed the sequel, which largely takes place in Europe and is based on a script he wrote with Justin Theroux (who played the evil DJ in the original). Owen Wilson will reprise his role as Hansel, with Will Ferrell’s Mugatu and Christine Taylor‘s Matilda Jeffries.
The much-anticipated comedy will also include a host of cameos from the likes of Kristen Wiig, Penelope Cruz, Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Stiller and Wilson partook in some publicity and announced the film’s release date by walking the Valentino runway at Paris Fashion Week as Derek and Hansel back in March.
The 2001 original grossed $60 million worldwide on a budget of $28 million, and has since become ingrained in pop culture thanks to Stiller’s memorable poses and self-applauding quotes.
Zoolander 2 hits cinemas on February 12 2016
