20th Century Fox continues to roll out one of the best marketing campaigns in recent memory with a new Deadpool promo in celebration of Australia Day on January 26.

Well, kind of.

Equipped with a good ol’ cork hat and terrible Aussie accent, Deadpool waxes lyrical on our proud nation’s criminal past, Hugh Jackman, and predilection for “blackout drinking”.

But turns out the Merc with a Mouth can’t quite forgive us for Wolverine — nothing against Hugh, “He’s a delightful guy, he really is” — but X-Men Origins was a career low. You understand.

The comic book incarnation of Ryan Reynolds‘ sassy mercenary is known for breaking the fourth wall to deliver his oddball quips, but this has got to be some of his most mega-meta material yet.

The video is in line with 20th Century Fox’s ‘cheeky’ marketing for its upcoming R-rated superhero flick, a ballsy campaign that has a massive appeal to its native audience.

Deadpool fans, who will automatically get the joke, are finally seeing the character realised properly on screen.

In case you missed it last month, 20th Century Fox and Marvel gave us #12DaysOfDeadpool with teaser trailers showing the wisecracking anti-hero doing things like showing off a giant chimichanga:

and drinking eggnog:

Plus, we got a peek at the script courtesy of Ryan Reynolds with crazy Deadpool doodles in the margins.

We also got not one but two different movie posters of Deadpool in a sweater and Deadpool with all the characters from the movie. And not to mention those adorkable Deadpool emojis which you can download now!

Deadpool hits theatres February 12 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano and Brianna Hildebrand.
