Rejoice, Marvel fans! Agent Carter’s mission will continue next season.
The Captain America spin-off starring Hayley Atwell averaged a relatively modest 7.6 million viewers and a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49 this season – and almost doubling its returns when factoring in seven days of DVR viewing.
The renewal comes as a minor surprise and a major relief for fans of the retro-era mini-series, since its fate was still up in the air. Marvel’s first female-driven entry opened to strong reviews, despite its soft live viewership, so we’re very happy to see its continuation. It shows a commitment on ABC and Marvel’s part to let the series grow.
Though ABC did not give an episode count, we’re hearing they’re ordering another 8, same as the first season. As it did this year, Agent Carter season 2 will serve as a bridge between the fall and spring installments of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which was also renewed for its third season.
Thank you, ABC. The more Peggy Carter in our lives, the better!
