Captain Holt left some big shoes to fill at the end of last season, but it seems Brooklyn Nine-Nine has found itself a new boss! …At least for now.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has cast Bill Hader, SNL vet and current star of Trainwreck as the new captain of the precinct, filling the position vacated by Captain Holt (Andre Braugher), who was forced into taking a public relations post for the NYPD thanks to his rival, Deputy Chief Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick) in the Fox comedy’s season 2 finale.

TVLine reports Hader will at least be guest starring in the third season premiere on September 27th, but they haven’t revealed whether or not he’ll be sticking around longer.

Considering the scene-stealing Braugher has been the captain of the Nine-Nine for two seasons, the goal will likely eventually be to get him back to his post, but having Hader around for at least a few episodes would be a lot of fun, if only to shake things up for a bit.

Hader is probably best known for his time on Saturday Night Live and for bringing us the beloved and eccentric Stefon. While it’s unclear what kind of captain he’ll be playing for us, we’re confident he’ll be memorable.

The exciting news doesn’t stop there. In the following week’s episode, The Good Wife star Archie Panjabi will be stopping by as Lieutenant Knox, an officer who takes an interest in Detective Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio). It also remains to be seen if Panjabi will continue on the show after her guest appearance, so we’ll have to wait and see.

A new promo poster was released a few days ago on TVLine that promises all kinds of fun to come in season 3. Check it out:

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the best comedies and progressive shows on television right now, with an ensemble cast that works magnificently together. If you haven’t given it a shot yet, I’d recommend catching up before the third season begins.

Do you think Hader’s character will be driven out by the Nine-Nine’s antics? How long will Holt have to be stuck in the public relations trap that Wuntch set for him? Let us know in the comments!
